Historical walk in Vaxholm

A cozy city walk that takes you through Vaxholm's central and oldest neighborhoods. Experience the picturesque little alleys and hear fun anecdotes from the archipelago and important events in Vaxholm's history.

The guide tells about the Vikings who settled around Vaxholm 1,000 years ago and about the first families who settled on Vaxön during the Middle Ages.

You will also hear about the major change that took place when Gustav Vasa decided to build a defensive fortification on the small island of Vaxholmen in the mid-16th century. The Crown, fishing, and summer visitors are three factors that have shaped and influenced this small town—see what traces remain today!

The guided tour takes about 1 hour and starts and ends at the square in front of Vaxholm Town Hall. The tour is also accessible for people with reduced mobility.
