Vaxholm
Archipelago experiences all year round
When you want to experience the Stockholm archipelago every day of the year
Vaxholm, just an hour by archipelago boat from Stockholm, is often called the capital of the archipelago. This may be due to Vaxholm's history and the fact that here you go ashore in a vibrant archipelago village with authentic restaurants and quaint shops, while experiencing the magnificent archipelago nature with hiking trails, canoeing routes and fishing waters just around the corner. And perhaps best of all - you can do it all year round.
Vaxholm in December means Advent atmosphere, concerts, Christmas gift shopping and seasonal food. The market sellers are preparing for this year's Christmas market, which is traditionally held on the second weekend of Advent, and Lucia is coming to visit.

Vaxholm quays are being renovated
An extensive renovation of the quays in central Vaxholm is currently underway. Piece by piece, Östhamnen, Söderhamnen and Västerhamnen will be renovated from scratch and also given new surfaces. The project will run until the end of 2026. You can find more information about how the construction is progressing and where you can expect work to take place when you are here on the city's website. There are also documentary films following the process.
