Cycling between the islands

Wheel your bicycle onto the Rindö ferry by the western harbour in Vaxholm and cross over to Rindö Island. Cycle to the eastern point of the island and stop at Ostmakeriet, the local dairy with its cheese shop and summer café. Rindö harbour is right next to it with several restaurants.

When it’s time to cycle back, head for Skarpö Island. Turn right when you get back to the ferry and cycle alongside the water of Stegesund and over the small bridge to Skarpö Island. Here, you will find rolling terrain, colourful houses and the scent of forest in the air.

Get on your bike by the harbour in Vaxholm and steer towards your first stop: Engarn. This is a small, scenic village with pretty archipelago houses, allotments and grazing sheep.

After taking a break, you can cycle onwards to Killingeskogen – a lovely wooded small peninsula with coniferous trees, marshy land, historic military remains and smooth rocks down towards the sea. In the outdoor recreation area you can navigate on paths and broader trails.

Before it’s time to continue your bike ride, we recommend visiting the Överbybadet swimming area, or Badviken, bathing bay, as it is also known. After the long straight section, past the football pitch and horse paddocks, turn left down towards the swimming area.

Then you can head to the eastern side of the island and the mine Ytterby Gruva, a world-famous historic site where no fewer than seven elements were discovered. Park your bicycle at the bottom of the steps that lead up to the mine and the magical view of the bay and the islands.

After that, you can cycle on the same route back to Vaxholm.
